the meme meme

I was just watching Countdown and The Verdict on MSNBC and noticed Keith Olbermann and Dan Abrams using the word "meme" to describe certain political, well, memes. The thing is, I never heard this word used on mainstream tv before tonight. They were also talking about the ubermeaning of the "fist bump" body language. Is there some evolving consciousness being displayed?
