Creative writing, full color art and photography wanted from people in Portland, Oregon or surrounding areas for a full color small run magazine.
We are looking for one essay and a few fiction or non-fiction pieces for the up coming first issue of a magazine. We accept submission from two hundred and fifty words to twenty five hundred in any genre. There will be no censorship, but there will be professional editing. We pay one cent per word, with a minimum payment of five dollars. No poetry.
We are also accepting full color art and photography. Again there will be no censorship. We will be paying from five to twenty five dollars per picture.
All copyrights shall return to the owner of the art or writing after publishing with the option to buy it later for an anthology.
If you interested feel free to e-mail me.
Thanks,
LH

Re: Writing and Art wanted.
Thu, September 20, 2007 - 9:56 PMAnd who is this publisher, what's the address to your website, and how would you describe the editors' mindset / taste? Is it underground / avant-garde in the broadest sense imaginable?
Incidentally, there seems to be a lot of activity in the literary underground & avant-garde centered around Portland. (Over here in Boston, not so much, though Brown U. in Providence, just downwind, claims to be the unofficial epicenter of the literary avant-garde.) Do you think my impression is correct? And has anybody else from, or living in, the Portland area, or nearby, noticed this? Or am I mistaken? -

Re: Writing and Art wanted.
Wed, September 26, 2007 - 11:36 AMI am the publisher, there is no website, and the editors mindset is somewhat insane. Im not sure if it is underground/avant-garde in the broadest sense but I know I dont want to put any labels on anything because I want to be surpised with the writing submited. So far the only way I have described it is "dark."
To clairify I am going to pick the stories and have someone else (actually two different people) edit for spelling and grammar. I cant spell my way out of a wet paper bag so someone else is going to check it.
Portland has a huge underground art and writing scene but sometimes its a matter of knowing the right people to find it.
